A Historic Home with a Modern Feel

The Fannie Willis Johnson Home, built in 1910 in the Mission Revival style, was designed by New Orleans architects Keenan and Weiss and was supervised by local architect William Stanton. It was constructed in Norman brick and trimmed in Bedford limestone by Curphey and Mundy Builders for $30,000. The Mission Revival style originated in California and was based on 17th and 18th century Spanish colonial architecture. Characteristics of the style are the Mission-gabled portico, cartouches, carved blocks over the columns, and wide bracketed eaves.

We absolutely loved this beautiful home! The room was comfortable, and breakfast was great. The star of our stay was the amazing house built in 1910, which has clearly been lovingly restored by owner Elizabeth and her husband. The stained-glass windows are spectacular! The home was easy to find, and our stay was very comfortable.

A stunning property located in a quiet residential street just a short, pleasant walk from downtown Vicksburg. Very friendly, welcoming staff and I could swear the bed in the Fannie Suite has magical healing properties; I’d been plagued by back & shoulder pain driving and sleeping in random beds during my trip, but 1 great night’s sleep at Oak Hall cured that. A perfect sister's getaway weekend!

My sister and I spent two nights in the Fannie king room and we couldn’t have been happier with our accomodations. As much as we wanted to get back to our families, we didn’t want to leave Oak Hall! I would call the breakfast a Continental Deluxe. There were homemade egg and cheese crustless mini quiche, delicious locally-baked scones and giant muffins, premium yogurt, fresh fruit, and delicious freshly ground coffee. The bed . . . heavenly! The stained glass windows . . . awe-inspiring. Elizabeth and Don, Oak Hall’s hosts/caretakers, have poured their hearts and souls into honoring the legacy of Miss Fannie by restoring her magnificent home to its original splendor.

More than a bed, just a beautiful small hotel!

Gorgeous space! Large handsome room with comfortable bed. Much much better than a chain. Called a continental breakfast but it was quite substantial. Their manager, Janice, was delightful.

All of the rooms in the house were very spacious and lovely with stained glass windows. We don't stay at B & B's very often but we felt like we were visiting a friend. Elizabeth, the owner, gave us a tour and the history of the house and also suggested that we have a drink and dinner at a rooftop bar downtown, overlooking the Mississippi River. The breakfast was very good with a nice variety. The bed was very comfortable and the location was in a quiet neighborhood. A very pleasant stay and great memories.

Wonderful stay in a very grand and comfortable property.

We had the whole carriage house and it was great – the outside was restored as original and the inside was rebuilt as clean and contemporary – there is a porch as the entry – new tile bathroom and very large bedroom -complete kitchen with dining area and living area – the owner is very friendly and rightfully proud of her very grand home for warmly welcomed guests.

Beautiful historic home

We went to Vicksburg to go to the battlefield and booked an overnight stay at Oak Hall. We love historic homes and this one did not disappoint. Elizabeth met us at the door and was happy to answer our questions about the house and the renovations done. Our room was spacious and beautiful and had all the modern conveniences we needed. We spent time on the front porch and Elizabeth gave us recommendations for dinner. When we return we will stay at Oak Hall.

Jackson Couples Getaway!

What an incredible experience staying here. We travel a good bit to small towns always looking for neat older homes to stay in. First off, this is THE cleanest place we have stayed. So many little details are put into everything. So beautiful and updated and again…. SO clean. The owner is so so sweet and accommodating, so much space throughout the house and the rooms. I can not say enough good things about staying here.

This place is a very lovely, private refurbished Hostel / B&B. The house itself is astonishing. All the interior is restored with a eye on details and also the art paintings in the rooms are from local artists nicely picked to fit the design of the rooms. Bathrooms are perfectly modern with a historical flair. The owner (Elizabeth) was absolutely helpful and gave us great recommendations for things to do and Restaurants. We can absolutely recommend this stay.
